On Saturday, June 28 Spence Farm will host a blood drive event. This event will take place at Spence Farm located at 41 Wyman Street in Woburn from 9 am until 2 pm. The type of donation taking place at this blood drive will be double red cells. Double red cell donation is done with the help of a apheresis machine which collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. Double red cell donations take approximately 30 minutes longer than a whole blood donation and allows participants to give two units of red cells. The requirements for double red cell donation are different compared to whole blood donation. If you are a donating female, you must be healthy and feeling well, at least 17 years old, a minimum height of 5’5” and weigh at least 150 pounds. For donating males, they must be healthy and feeling well, at least 17 years old, a minimum heigh of 5’1” and weigh at least 130 pounds.
